Android File Transfer for Mac: what to use now

Android File Transfer was Google's small Mac app for copying files between an Android phone and a Mac over a USB cable. Google has stopped offering it, so Mac owners need something else.

What happened to Android File Transfer

On October 4, 2026, Google's old download address, android.com/filetransfer, shows Quick Share for Windows PCs instead. There is no Mac download on it, and Quick Share itself has no Mac app.

For your photos and videos

Most trips to Android File Transfer were to get photos off the phone. DroidPort does that without a cable. Its Photos view shows your phone's photos and videos as thumbnails over your Wi-Fi.

  • Open the full-resolution original, or save a copy.
  • Drag a photo or video straight into Finder.
  • Import everything new since last time in one step.

For sending files both ways

Mac to phone: drop files or a whole folder onto DroidPort's Files view, or pick them from a file window. The direct download from droidport.app also adds Share to Phone to the macOS Share menu.

Phone to Mac: share a file to KDE Connect on your phone and pick your Mac. It shows up in DroidPort's Files list, where you can save a copy or drag it out. Pick a folder, such as Downloads, and files from the phone save straight into it.

What DroidPort does not do

DroidPort does not open every folder on your phone's storage. Photos covers your camera roll and Files covers what you send. If you need to dig through other folders on the phone, you still need a file manager that connects over a USB cable.

Questions people ask

Can I still download Android File Transfer for Mac?

Not from Google. Its old download address now shows Quick Share for Windows PCs, with no Mac download.

Does DroidPort need a USB cable?

No. DroidPort works over your local Wi-Fi network with the free KDE Connect app on your phone. Your files go straight between the two, with no cloud and no account.

Can DroidPort open every folder on my phone?

No. DroidPort browses your phone's photos and videos, and sends files in either direction, plus whole folders from the Mac. It does not open the rest of the phone's storage.
